Measuring campaign conversion for a tips channel

Measuring a campaign for a Telegram channel means knowing not how many users joined, but how many of those users then reached somewhere that generates value — a paid channel, a monetisation bot, an affiliate link. Without permanent attribution at first entry that figure does not exist, and after a few days users blend together, making any analysis impossible.

In short

  • "How many joined" is not a metric, it is a count. A hundred users who vanish are worth zero.
  • Conversion happens downstream and late, often days or weeks after joining.
  • Attribution must happen at first entry and be permanent, or it gets lost in the noise.
  • Native Telegram links beat external redirects, which lose people along the way.
  • The decision attribution unlocks is which campaign to renew and which to cut.

Why counting entries misleads

Subscribers brought by a campaign are not all worth the same, and the difference is enormous. A real and frequent case:

Campaign A Campaign B
Cost Same Same
Subscribers brought 500 80
Downstream conversions 3 12
Value produced Low 4× higher
What you would have done without attribution Renewed it Cut it

Without attribution you would have looked only at the "subscribers brought" row and made exactly the wrong decision. It is the most common scenario, and the reason most tipster advertising budgets are allocated badly.

Why permanent attribution is required

The technical problem is delay. A user joins from the campaign today, watches for two weeks, and only then enters a paid channel or activates a bot. At that point there is no way left to connect them to the campaign that brought them: they have blended in with everyone else.

Why generic methods fail in this scenario:

  • Tracked links with external redirects lose users at every hop and do not survive app switching.
  • Advertising pixels do not follow the user inside Telegram.
  • Promo codes depend on the user remembering and using them.
  • Manual counting works for a day and collapses on the second.

The only method that holds is binding the user to the campaign at the moment of entry, with attribution that does not expire.

How attribution done properly works

This is the method PremiumCounter applies in the TipsterHub ecosystem:

  1. A dedicated invite link per campaign. Native Telegram links, no external redirects: no hop where users can be lost.
  2. Permanent attribution at first entry. Every user joining through that link stays bound to that campaign, with no expiry.
  3. Downstream recognition. When the same user later enters a monetisation channel — VIP, Platinum, Elite, whatever your structure — the system recognises and counts them, even weeks later.
  4. Per-campaign reporting. How many brought, how many converted, into which channels, in real time.

The decisive technical point is the third: recognition happens on the Telegram identity, which is stable, not on a cookie or a URL parameter that dies at the first app switch.

The decisions the numbers unlock

Renew or cut. The most immediate decision and the first to pay back. With attribution you stop renewing campaigns that bring volume without quality.

Negotiate prices. "Your channel converted X users into my paid channels" is a strong position in any negotiation, and moves the price far more than generic argument.

Understand timing. Knowing your users convert on average after twelve days completely changes how you judge a campaign: without that figure you would declare it a failure on day seven.

Understand which content converts. Attribution is not only for paid campaigns: it works on organic posts and collaborations too, telling you which format brings users who then do something.

What else to measure

Metric What it tells you
Downstream conversion rate Whether the source brings a suitable audience
Average time to conversion How long to wait before judging
Entries leaving within 7 days Whether the source brings misled users
Conversion by destination channel Which offer works on which audience
Cost per conversion The real cost, not cost per subscriber

The last row changes how you buy advertising: a cheap subscriber who does not convert is more expensive than a costly one who does.

Where to start

PremiumCounter is part of the TipsterHub utilities, and for platform tipsters it is free to use. Create the account, message us, and from the next campaign you stop deciding blind.

It is worth activating before your first campaign, not after: attribution is not retroactive, and users who joined earlier stay unattributable permanently.

Frequently asked questions

How do you track an advertising campaign on Telegram?

With a dedicated native invite link per campaign and a system that binds every user to that link at the moment of entry, permanently. External redirects and pixels do not work inside Telegram, and promo codes depend on the user's memory.

Why isn't counting how many users joined enough?

Because subscribers are not all worth the same: one campaign can bring many users who never do anything and another few users who convert. Counting entries systematically leads to renewing the wrong campaigns.

How long after joining does a user convert?

It varies a lot by channel, and it is precisely the figure attribution reveals. It is common for days or weeks to pass between joining and entering a paid channel, which is why a campaign judged after a few days always looks worse than it is.

Does attribution work for organic posts and collaborations too?

Yes. Any source that can have its own invite link — a cross-post, a collaboration, a post on another social network — can be measured the same way, and comparing organic against paid sources is often the most useful figure of all.

Do I need to install anything or change my channel?

No. The system works on native Telegram invite links and on user identity: it requires no channel modification and no software installed by subscribers.

Can I recover data from campaigns already run?

No, attribution happens at the moment of entry and is not retroactive. Users who joined before activation stay unattributable, which is why it is worth switching tracking on before your first campaign.
